The organisation - Freie Universität Berlin lists amongst the best German universities in respect to university rankings, and is one of nine universities to win in the German Universities Excellence Initiative.

Professor Michael Giersig will be leading FUB’s contributions to the CosmoPHOS-nano project, with his team specialising in the preparation of nanometer-scale metallic and magnetic particles as well as both 1D and 3D nanostructures. Prof. Giersig’s substantial experience in the field is supported by over 221 internationally refereed publications on a variety of related subjects including chemistry, materials science, nanotechnology and engineering and he was placed at number 74 in chemistry and 83 in material science in Thomson Reuters world ranking of the Top 100 Chemists and Material Scientists of the Past Decade (2000 – 2010).
